Departure -1 Day
Everything is ready, we hope, and now we wait to see what can go wrong! Our bags are packed and arrangements have been made for the mail, etc. I got a confirmation from Top Hat Limousine service that we are to be picked up at 4:00 PM tomorrow for our 8:15 PM flight.
The long and arduous dance with the airlines and airports begin. Just today I learned that our travel time has been extended by an additional three hours of layover in Amsterdam.
We did not receive a notification of the change, but I learned of it when I checked my Fly Delta app. We were scheduled for a 12:35 PM flight from Amsterdam to Glasgow, but it has been changed to a 3:30 PM flight. After almost 3 hours at Atlanta Airport and 8.5 hours in the air, all I need is 5 hour layover in Schipol airport.
Schiphol Airport - Amsterdam |
Schiphol reminds me of Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta. If you have to make a connecting flight in Europe, chances are good it will be here. It is the world's third busiest airport by international passenger traffic. Atlanta has a much higher passenger count but most if it's is domestic. Their website said they are limiting departures from Schiphol all summer so I would guess this has something to do with our flight plans change. Perhaps they consolidated two flights to one.
This means that instead of arriving at our hotel at perhaps 2:30 PM, we will not arrive until 5:30 PM. There goes any chance of catching our breath. We have a Welcome Dinner scheduled for 6:30 PM.
Hey, I should stop complaining and just be appreciative that I am able to make this great trip with friends and my lovely wife.
I'll post next when I have the time, until then....
