Day 40 - August 20, 2022 - Dublin

There is not a great deal to post about today.  At 9:00 AM we boarded the coach for a 2 1/2 hour city tour.  It was interesting, but few stops for photos, so not much to share.

Ivy covered building in the Georgia Period style.

A section of the original Dublin Wall dating from 1240 AD

The parking area in front of an elementary school, I thought this was neat.

We visited Phoenix Park, a 1700 acre entirely walled park.  The U.S. ambassador to Ireland has his home here.  There was a race of some nature taking place and runners were everywhere.

Wellington Monument, not the most popular person in Ireland.  This of course was erected during British rule. Construction began in 1817 and opened in 1861.  It is 203 feet tall.

The Guinness brewery, which is a very popular monument in Ireland.

After the drive, we were given admission to the Epic Immigration Museum.  It is a large multimedia museum which is has been voted a top European Museum.  Personally, I hated it.  Not because of the content, which I would have enjoyed if presented in another format.  The museum consisted of about 20 areas, divided into sections which were playing repeating movies with various display screens.  Between the darkened rooms, the various colored lights and the multimedia, I just had to escape and wait for the others to finish.

Since we finished the museum about an hour before the pickup time, we decided to walk the mile and half back to the hotel and stop along the way for some lunch.

Looking down the River Liffey, see the cruise ship docked on the left?

We had lunch at O'Neill's Bar & Kitchen.  Kay and I had a bacon & brie with mango chutney on a baguette with a side of potato salad and green salad.  It was great.   Unfortunately, Janet and Carl's turkey with vegetables and fries was not so good.  The sandwich was fine but the fries and carrots were cold.

You see some interesting people on the streets...

And some interesting things in the windows...

We have our farewell dinner at 6:00 PM this evening.  I have already printed our boarding passes for the flight tomorrow so I will sign off, probably until we have returned home.

I plan to do a final post with a summary, hope you have enjoyed my pictures and musings.
